Many of the athletic events actually date way back to ancient Greece, where the Olympic Games had originated. The true origins of some of the events however, can be traced to 15th century England and Scotland. These events include the modern Hammer Throw, Pole Vault and the Shot Putt.
Athletics has been a part of the Commonwealth Games since the 1930 Games in Hamilton, Canada ( Back then it was called the British Empire Games ).
