Brief
History and Explanation Squash was invented at Harrow in the 1830s. It came about when the school pupils discovered that a punctured raquet ball, which "squashed" on impact with the wall, had more elasticity. This produced a game that had a greater variety of shots and required much more effort on the part of the players. The variant proved popular and in 1864, the first four Squash courts were constructed in the school and Squash was officially established as a sport in its own right. Squash will make its debut in the 1998 XVI Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. |
